4. Before the name of newspapers, holy books, reference books and epic poems.
Eg:- The Hindu, The Bible, The Ramayana, The dictionary etc..
5. Before Government departments, banks
Eg:- The Pollution Control Department, The Union Bank of India
6. Before the names of countries made up of smaller parts or union
Eg:- The United States, The West Indies
Note:- 'The' is not used before the names of countries and places.
Eg:- India, Kottayam

7. Before inhabitants of a country, names of a community
Eg:- The French, The Dutch, The Sikhs, The Christians
8. Before points on the gole.
